Who Play'n GO is.
Who they are
Play'n GO traces its roots to 1997, when it built its first gaming solution as a subcontractor in Växjö, Sweden. It is still led by co-founder and chief executive Johan Törnqvist, and its licensed operations sit in Malta. It says it has more than 400 titles and works in more than 35 jurisdictions.1,2
It came to North America late: Ontario in March 2022, a Michigan licence that July, and a first US launch in New Jersey with PokerStars in September 2022, followed by a BetMGM deal.8
What they are known for
Unlike studios that license themes, Play'n GO built its own franchises. Rich Wilde, its Indiana Jones-style adventurer, first appeared in 2013; Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead (2016) turned the expanding-symbol book mechanic into one of the most played slots in Europe. Reactoonz (2017) is the other pillar: a 7×7 grid paying for clusters of five or more, which Play'n GO counts among the grid slots it says it pioneered.5,6,7
Licensing and compliance
The UK Gambling Commission lists Play'n GO Malta Limited under account 55949, with remote software and game-host licences since January 2020. The company holds MGA licence MGA/B2B/225/2012, and Gibraltar lists Play'n GO (Gibraltar) Limited among its B2B licence holders. Its safer-gambling page shows play limits and in-play timers operators can switch on.3,1,4,10,11
Return to player
This is the clearest statement we found from any studio. In a 2020 interview, Play'n GO's then head of sales said its games are certified at five return levels, 96%, 94%, 91%, 87% and 84%, that the operator chooses, and that every game's help file shows the level in use. The official Book of Dead page prints no return at all. Check the help file before you play.12,5
